Welcome, friend! Thanks for stopping by! I’m thrilled to introduce you to my very first Mystery Person on our Wall of Fame. Your timing’s perfect!
Why don’t you set down your bag and let me pour you a nice cold glass of water? It’s our Mystery Person’s favorite drink, which is funny because he’s not one bit bland. No, he’s quite the storyteller. Just a warning… if he gets bored, he might ask to wrestle you. Don’t say yes unless you’re seriously talented. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame back in 1992.
I’d blurt out his name and drag him over here, but then our fun would be over too soon. (Plus he’s dead, so there’s that.) Why don’t we play a little game and see if you can figure out who he is!
Well, look! A cute cat sneaked into the portrait. She must have heard about his love for cats. He used to set a place for his cat, Tabby, at the family’s dinner table!
Oh gosh. Here comes a goat.
I might as well share the rest of the animals that horned in on my portrait making.
I don’t know if they had names, but our Mystery Person kept a bunch of goats at the White House to keep his boys amused.
Oops. I let it slip too soon. Yes, he’s a former US president and the dinner table I mentioned was in the White House dining room.

By the way, that goat is standing on a toy that he made himself for his boys. Ignore that the toy is bigger than the goat. This is all for fun, remember?
Meet Fido, our Mystery Person’s dog.
Okay, so our Mystery Person is not the most creative when it comes to picking names for his pets. No one can be great at everything.
Fido was known to walk around downtown with our Mystery Person, carrying a basket in his mouth for the latest newspaper.
What a good dog.
I bet you’re going to guess that our Mystery Person named this turkey Tom.
He probably would’ve, though I don’t know if he had a pet turkey. I just included it in the portrait because our Mystery Person made Thanksgiving an official national holiday! So yay! I love Thanksgiving, don’t you?
I included a stamp in the portrait because he worked for a while as a postmaster. He also co-owned a store and worked as a clerk, a ferry operator, a farmhand, a rail-splitter, a soldier, and a lawyer.

My drawing skills aren’t terrible, though I must’ve skipped my tremor medicine the day I worked on his portrait.
The point is that his eyes are gray.

Wow. What a fine job I did defining his inner ear.
But you’re supposed to notice his earrings, not his ears. And before you get mad at me and say that I committed blasphemy because I gave a former well-respected president a pair of matching chain earrings, let me ask you to please find yourself a mere fraction of his sense of humor. And focus on the earrings! I added them to remind us of the greatest contribution he made to our country: helping enslaved people break their cruel chains.
